During the visit of Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz to Vietnam (from September 28 to October 2), on the afternoon of September 28, Mr. Osvaldo Vento Montiller – Minister – President of the Cuban National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation visited and worked at the Hanoi Sports Competition and Training Center. Mr. Dao Quoc Thang – Director of Hanoi Sports Training and Competition Center and the Center’s leaders, heads of departments and divisions welcomed and worked with the delegation.

Overview of the working session.

Mr. Dao Quoc Thang stated during his discussion with Minister Osvaldo Vento Montiller that the Hanoi Sports Training and Competition Center is a large-scale facility with 32 sports and competitions, including one for people with impairments. The center also has many athletes from the national team, which consists of about ten subjects. The facilities, which cover about 60 hectares, are being invested in relatively simultaneously; training and competition equipment, depending on the subject, also reaches world standards. This is the place that has contributed the number of athletes as well as achievements to the Vietnamese team competing in the SEA Games, Asiad and Olympic arenas, accounting for about one-third of the number of athletes as well as the number of medals of Vietnamese sports. Every year, the Center also welcomes national teams to exchange, learn and train. The Center has a key investment strategy, prioritizing Olympic sports such as athletics, swimming, Gymnastics, shooting, weightlifting, wrestling, etc. The Center also focuses on the selection and training of young athletes. Therefore, the Center has become a key center to support for sports talents in Hanoi in particular and Vietnam in general on the path of integration and development.

Mr. Osvaldo Vento Montiller, Minister-President of the Cuban National Institute of Sports, Physical Education, and Recreation, expressed his gratitude for the Center’s thoughtful reception, saying: “Cuba also has a number of training centers similar to the Hanoi Sports Training and Competition Center. It has trained several athletes who have achieved success both domestically and internationally. Sports are taught in Cuban schools from elementary to university level, and students can choose their favorite sports. There are 16 large-scale training centers across the country, each with about 600 students in 32 subjects.

According to the Minister-President of the Cuban National Institute of Sports, Physical Education, and Recreation, Cuba is one of the countries with strengths in basketball, boxing, volleyball, and other sports. Cuba employs a training pyramid concept, with the best athletes at the top of the tower.

Interested in the sharing of Minister Osvaldo Vento Montiller, Mr. Dao Quoc Thang – Director of the Hanoi Sports Training and Competition Center wishes to receive cooperation and help from Cuba in training, appointing coaches and experts to support Hanoi sports in the strong sports of Cuba.
