Following the success of the first festival held in 2018, this year’s festival is elevated up with the participation of 35 teams from 25 domestic and international delegations, with nearly 500 athletes participating in the competition which standards require that each dragon boat includes 12 people, the racing distance is 600 meters, divided into professional teams and movement groups to compete, in which, the professional team composes of international teams from 5 countries: Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Laos, China and teams from all provinces and cities in Vietnam including: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Hai Phong, Hai Duong, Vinh Phuc, Thai Nguyen, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Binh Thuan. Movement group includes districts: Ba Vi, Bac Tu Liem, Dan Phuong, Thanh Tri, Ung Hoa and groups of embassies, alumni of Sweden, England, America, Vietnam Airlines, BIDV Bank, West Lake Racing Club, etc.

Within the festival, the people of the Capital will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the parade of boat athletes and some water sports. Among the fierce competitions are the outstanding art performances such as: playing Vietnamese popular opera, singing Chau Van, drumming, etc., promising to bring a vibrant festival atmosphere to visitors in the new spring.

This is an annual exchange and cooperation concerning local culture and sports between Hanoi People’s Committee and Vietnam Airlines to restore and preserve traditional sports, promote Hanoi’s culture and history, create the highlight attracting tourists to the capital city on the occasion of Tet coming close by and the Spring returning.

This is also an opportunity for enthusiasts of sailing sports to exchange, learn, and work together towards the goal of making Hanoi Open Dragon Boat Festival to become a unique cultural product of this capital city.
