The activity is selected by the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as one of the main events in the Cultural Cooperation Program between Vietnam and Korea in 2022.

Korean delegates attending the event included Mr. Kim Dong Yi – Mayor of Boryeong City; Dr. Seung Yong Uhm – Director of the Korean Cultural Resource Institute. On the Vietnamese side, there were Mr. Pham Dinh Phong – Deputy Director of the Department of Cultural Heritage, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Mr. Do Dinh Hong – Director of Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports; Assoc. Dr. Do Van Tru – Chairman of Vietnam Cultural Heritage Association; together with scientists, researchers, leaders of museums… and especially 101 contestants to participate in the National Event on writing Ho Chi Minh’s sayings in Hanguel.

At the opening of the contest, Dr. Seung Yong Uhm (Director of the Korean Cultural Resources Institute) shared: “We wish to spread Ho Chi Minh Thought widely, not only to the Korean people, but also to the young generations of Vietnam. I also hope this event will create a driving force for Korean culture to become closer and loved by the Vietnamese people.”

The National Event on writing Ho Chi Minh’s sayings in Hanguel was inspired by Thach Nghien, a valuable cultural heritage of Boryeong city, one of the Four Treasures of the Study, representing common culture between Vietnam and Korea. The Organizing Committee has tried to reproduce that value in a creative way, in order to attract the attention of young people by exploiting traditional writing – calligraphy to share the values and quintessence of the two nations. Vietnam and Korea: Hangeul and Ho Chi Minh Quotes. The contest had the participation of 101 contestants who are calligraphy lovers, Korean language students from universities in Vietnam.

In the end, the Organizing Committee awarded 15 best calligraphy works, including: 01 Special Prize, 02 Gold Prizes, 04 Silver Awards and 08 Bronze Awards. These excellent works will be transformed into calligraphy works engraved on wood which then will be displayed at the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum from November 28 to November 30, 2022.

Contestant Vu Thi Thuy Hang – senior of Faculty of Korean Language, Hanoi University won the Special Prize of the contest. The quote chosen by the candidates is: “Only if there is self-dependence, there is national independence; only if there is self-reliance, there is freedom”.

The contest aims to share the teachings of President Ho Chi Minh’s sayings in Korean to the young generation of Vietnam and the people of Korea on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations (1992 – 2022).
