The exhibition introduces 25 paintings and graphics about Hanoi with diverse materials such as lacquer, oil paint, silk, gouache, watercolor, lead, wood carving… selected from the collection of the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum.

With a rich visual language with their own style, imprint and passionate love for Hanoi, the artists like to bring the public back to life with historical days, the early days of the resilient Hanoi resistance war, courage, imprisoning, draining the enemy’s life force, preserving forces to prepare for a long resistance war. These proud images are clearly shown through works such as: “Kháng chiến” (scene of destruction of earth) by Le Quoc Loc; “Thủ đô kháng chiến” by Nguyen Quang Phong, “Chiến lũy” by Le Anh Van, etc.

After 9 years of resistance, Hanoi was peaceful in the atmosphere of colorful flags and flowers to welcome the army to liberate the capital, reproduced through works such as: “Hà Nội đêm giải phóng” by Le Thanh Duc, “Phố Hàng Đường” by Trinh Huu Ngoc, “Niềm vui giải phóng” by Tran Khanh Chuong, etc.

In the early days after peace was established, the bustling atmosphere of Hanoi’s scene during festivals, or the pomp, elegance and labor beauty of the Trang An people were always preferred by successfully portrayed through many works such as “Xuân Hồ Gươm” by Nguyen Tu Nghiem, “Đan len” by Tran Van Can, “Trong lò than nhà máy điện Yên Phụ” by Tran Dinh Tho, etc.

Through this exhibition, the public can also admire works on famous landmarks of Hanoi such as Uncle Ho’s Stilt House, Hoan Kiem Lake, Ngoc Son Temple, Temple of Literature, and O Quan Chuong.

The exhibition “Memories of Hanoi” will bring to the public a meaningful gift on the occasion of the Capital’s Liberation Day.
