The Folk Song and Dance Festival is a cultural and artistic activity organized to preserve and promote traditional folk art forms of Hanoi in particular and Vietnam in general. It contributes to instructing and promoting unique cultural features of the nation to a large number of domestic and international friends through unique traditional folk songs and dances, imbued with cultural nuances of the regions. In addition, the festival also aims to increase attention and raise the role and responsibility of the Party committees, authorities, people of all classes, especially the young generation of Hanoi in preserving and promoting traditional folk art forms; orient, consolidate and improve quality of grassroots mass art movement activities, meeting needs of art creation and enjoyment, and creating a joyful and exhilarating atmosphere among the masses.

The festival was launched to the grassroots from August 2022 and received enthusiastic response from districts and towns. There were 4 units that well organized the festival at grassroots level such as Long Bien, Thanh Xuan, Bac Tu Liem and Soc Son districts. They selected the most outstanding and typical performances to participate in the City-level Festival Final.

The City-level Festival Final was held at 19:00 on October 11, 12 and 13, 2022 in 3 clusters: Hanoi Cultural Center (No. 7 Phung Hung, Ha Dong District); Dam communal house (Tay Tuu ward, Bac Tu Liem district); People’s Committee of Van Phuc commune (Phuc Tho district). The festival was attended by folk artists, actors, musicians, mass performing art members of 22/30 districts and towns. Each of them performed 3 special performances in folk song, folk dance and folk music; each district or town had 15 minutes for their performances.

 The festival met the needs of art creativity and enjoyment, creating a joyful and exhilarating atmosphere among the masses.

Themed at “Hometown Melodies”, the units brought to the festival folk songs, folk dances bearing bold cultural characteristics of regions of Hanoi and Vietnam. The performances focused on praising the Country and People of Vietnam, reflecting people’s aspirations for a prosperous and happy life, aspiration to conquer and master nature, work for Integrity – Compassion – Excellence; praising Hanoi capital – the city of “Culture – Civilization – Modern” in integration and development, etc. all of them are promised for have good quality, be methodically staged, attractive, creative, leaving a profound impression on viewers.
