25 carefully selected works, introduced in the exhibition “Poonah-paper 3” right at the beginning of the new year 2021, marked a new turning point in the journey of passion and creativity “putting soul into Poonah-paper” of Vu Thai Binh. His works are not static but contain sounds that make up a piece of music. The warm, smooth but strong and sharp colors are shown vividly by the painter on poonah-paper, showing the true and simple moments.

The stories of daily life through paintings “Old alley”, “Market at the afternoon”, “A new day”, an ancient street, image of coastal fishermen who are working, the remaining of a changing industrial society, and so on, would be forgotten if not shown in the paintings. Each individual painting strongly attracts attention and brings viewers special emotion anđ feeling.

Visitors may enjoy beautiful and peaceful natural scenery of the Northwestern mountains and forests through the seasons of the year through paintings “The leaf changing season”, “Spring is coming”, “Leisurely”. Spring is described authentically with peach and plum blossoming on old tiled roofs, expressing the combination between ancient features and the new life.

Artist Vu Thai Binh shared: “For me, poonah-paper is a spiritual child. Working with this type of paper, I experienced many failures. And when I can do it, I realized that poonah-paper is gentle, soft, and supple, but not fragile at all. Poonah-pape is a wonderful and amazing material, showing the traditional feature in the increasingly developing society. So, this type of painting paper should be preserved and respected”. “To draw on poonah-paper, you must understand its texture and have your own style which is not too massive, not too strong, but gentle and graceful. You should also find ways to adjust working style to suit the poonah-paper”.

Being originally a theater artist, artist Vu Thai Binh does not follow the theater career but pursues painting and shows his major passion for Poonah-paper. Vu Thai Binh is one of very few painters pursuing his passion for this kind of painting paper. The artist successfully painted on this material at “Poonah-paper 2016” with paintings describing the rural life. Through “Poonah-paper 2018”, Vu Thai Binh showed more maturity through each painting with his typical color array and line.

The exhibition will open at 4:00 P.M. at the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum, at No. 66 Nguyen Thai Hoc, Ba Dinh, Hanoi.
