Responding to “Clean Up the World 2022” campaign

The “Clean Up the World 2022” campaign (hereinafter referred to as the Campaign) was initiated by Australia, launched globally by the United Nations Environment Program since 1993 (on the 3rd week of every September), and developed into an important annual international environmental event, attracting participation of hundreds of countries and millions of people globally through..

The “Clean Up the World 2022” campaign (hereinafter referred to as the Campaign) was initiated by Australia, launched globally by the United Nations Environment Program since 1993 (on the 3rd week of every September), and developed into an important annual international environmental event, attracting participation of hundreds of countries and millions of people globally through various activities focusing on environmental protection and sustainable development. Vietnam has participated in the campaign since 1994 with many specific and practical activities.

Campaign 2022 theme: Let’s unite to change the world

Following the theme of Let’s unite to change the world that was launched under the Campaign 2021 and continuing to improve the effectiveness of environmental protection, in order to reach the goal of sustainable development, Hanoi will organize the following events:

(1) Launching community movements such as environment cleanup; tree planting; improvement and restoration of the environment in urban areas, residential areas and surrounding areas, especially on lakes, rivers, canals, etc. Paying attention to solving environmental problems in the locality, such as waste collection, classification, transport and treatment in accordance with regulations, environmental pollution issues that directly affect people’s lives and livelihoods;

(2) Propagating and organizing implementation of the provisions of the Law on Environmental Protection 2020 and documented regulations detailing and guiding implementation of the Law, focusing on new regulations. Integrating content on circular economy, green economy and sustainable development in formulation and implementation of socio-economic development plans of localities and agencies;

(3) Strictly controlling and monitoring areas of concentrated waste sources in industrial parks, industrial clusters, craft villages, river basins, hot spots for environmental pollution, etc.; controlling pollution, improving air quality. Starting, constructing and handing over projects and works on environmental protection and climate change adaptation to better serve socio-economic development and people’s lives;

(4) Raising awareness about implementing extended responsibilities of manufacturers and importers (referred to as EPR) in the direction of producing products that save raw materials and reduce use of hazardous materials, difficult-to-recycle ones, have optimized design for convenient collection, sorting and recycling (design for the environment). Raising awareness and responsibility towards supermarkets, food and commodity supply chains, owners of production, business, service facilities, and people in purchases and consumption, in order to minimize use of non-biodegradable plastic bags and disposable plastic products (such as plastic straws, foam boxes, plastic cups, etc.); strengthening replacement and use of environmentally friendly products; receiving discarded products, reusing, recycling and treating waste, contributing to creating an important foundation for a circular economy;

(5) Media agencies, newspapers, Radio and Television stations increase duration for propaganda and communication on environmental protection, especially for contents related to green economy and circular economy, activities for the environment; implement communication programs with innovated content and in diversified forms on the basis of technology, suitable for target groups;

(6) Detecting and replicating good examples, models, initiatives, solutions, and practices on environmental protection. Giving commendation and rewards according to their competence or propose commendation and rewards for organizations and individuals with typical outstanding achievements in environmental protection work to the competent authorities.
