General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong emphasized: “Our people and our country gave birth to President Ho, a great national hero, and he himself made our people and our nation shine”. President Ho Chi Minh’s life is the most noble symbol for Vietnamese patriotism and heroism. He was a radiant crystallization of ethics, wisdom, courage, and, conscience of the nation and time.

Born into a patriotic Confucian family in Kim Lien village, Nam Dan district, Nghe An province, a rural province rich in historical, cultural, and revolutionary traditions, President Ho Chi Minh soon absorbed his spirit, passionate patriotism, and deep sympathy for the people as well as and the resilient and indomitable will of his father. Witnessing the misery in his country, the failing struggles against the French colonial in different directions, and the blood of so many elders and our people without the gain of independence and freedom, he was determined to find a new way to save the country and the people.

After traveling around the world to study and learn about typical revolutions, after testing many theories and ways of struggle by the working class and the peoples of the colonial countries, he found light in Marxism-Leninism, the true light of the time and the way of national liberation, social liberation, and human liberation.

It can be said that President Ho Chi Minh devoted his whole life to the glorious revolutionary cause of our Party, our people and international friends. His name and career remain forever with our country and live forever in the heart of our people and in the heart of humanity. He has left for our Party, ourr people, and generations today and tomorrow a very precious ideological heritage, a shining example of morality and style, and a modest lifestyle!

Ho Chi Minh’s thought is a system of comprehensive and in-depth views on the fundamental issues of the Vietnamese revolution; it is the result of a process of applying and developing creatively Marxism-Leninism in the specific conditions of our country, inheriting and developing the fine traditional values of the nation, and absorbing the quintessence humanization; it is a great and precious spiritual asset of the Party and our people that helped us go from victory to victory and contribute to the common struggle of all nations in the world for peace, national independence, democracy, and social progress.

Applying creatively Marxism-Leninism to Vietnamese practice, President Ho Chi Minh outlined the creative revolutionary path in accordance with the characteristics of Vietnam’s revolutionary practice: national independence is associated with socialism; national liberation associated with class liberation and human liberation. He pointed out that, after gaining independence, the revolution “we must have a socialist revolution in order to achieve complete victory” “because only socialism brings prosperous to the people and the fatherland”.
Besides, Ho Chi Minh was a shining example, a model of revolutionary morality. He was a symbol of the will, energy and striving tirelessly to overcome all difficulties and challenges. He always set an example of consistency, bravery, and absolute loyalty to the goal and ideals of the revolution; an example of being close to the people, loving and cherishing the people, wholeheartedly serving the Fatherland and the people with integrity and free will. He embodies the spirit of tolerance and compassion in Vietnam; a symbol of noble revolutionary morality, a pure and faithful international spirit, and the messenger of peace and friendship between nations. Ho Chi Minh’s noble revolutionary moral qualities were not natural. That is the result of a continuous process of self-cultivation, self-training, and self-improvement. Therefore, he always instructed cadres and Party members to constantly cultivate and train morality to become exemplary revolutionary soldiers. He was the embodiment of a simple, pure lifestyle. He loved labor and looked down on luxury, without a bit of desire for wealth for himself. His whole life was committed to only one purpose “to strive for the interests of the Fatherland and the happiness of the nation”. Ho Chi Minh’s morality and style combine thoughts and actions, words and deeds and have become a natural way of life. Each official, Party member and citizen find in his teachings, his noble example, and his style the standards to be learned, cultivated, and trained for each to become better, reaching the true, good, and beautiful cultural values in life.

Also in his speech, General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong affirmed: Every victory and every step up of the Vietnamese revolution was associated with the great merits of President Ho Chi Minh and the inspiration led by Ho Chi Minh’s thought. In the renovation cause, in the face of complicated developments in the world situation, with the difficulties in the country, our Party has steadfast in Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh’s thought, applying and developing them creatively into the country practice, and has made great achievements with historical significance. From a poor and backward country, Vietnam has risen to become a developing country with middle income. Our country has never had the structure, potentiality, position and international reputation today; and has more favorable conditions and premise to step firmly on the path that our Party, our people, and beloved Uncle Ho have chosen. The achievements of the 35 years of reforms have affirmed that our Party’s renewal way based on Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh’s thought is correct and creative, in line with Vietnamese practice and development trends of the times.

Deeply imbued with the teachings of President Ho Chi Minh, we need to continue to strengthen the building and rectification of the Party and the political system that is really clean, strong in politics, thought, organization, and ethics; and improving the Party’s leadership, ruling and fighting capacity to build a truly socialist rule of law State “of the people, by the people, for the people”. The tradition of collaboration between the Party and the people must continue to be promoted; we must rely on the people to build the Party, strive to promote democracy and the people’s sovereignty, and preserve unity in the Party so that our Party will forever “be moral and civilized” as set out in the radical instructions from President Ho Chi Minh; worthy of the revolutionary leadership role and mission and the people’s trust and expectations.

Following Uncle Ho’s instructions on “Raising revolutionary morality, wiping individualism”, we need to be determined, persistent and active about the Party; prevent and repel corruption and deterioration in political ideology, morality, and lifestyle of cadres and party members; eliminate the “self-evolving”, “self-transforming” situations; continue to promote the learning and applying Ho Chi Minh’s thought, morality and style into regular political activities, making them a cultural need within the Party and among the people. Each official and Party member should seriously perform their responsibility to set an example, following the principle of “the higher the position, the greater the role”. The heads of agencies and units in the Party and in the government apparatus need to be exemplary in cultivating their ethical qualities, lifestyles, and style of work for the masses and people to follow, as Uncle Ho once taught: “A vital example is worth more than a hundred propaganda speeches”.

We need to continue to deeply grasp the concept of “People are the roots”. People are the center, the subject of the renovation. We need to keep to the principles: All guidelines and policies must really come from the aspirations, legitimate, and lawful rights and interests of the people; taking the people’s happiness and well-being as a target to strive. First of all, it is necessary to take full care of the people’s life and practical interests; and truly respect and promote the people’s ownership. Uncle Ho’s teaching: “Under the skies, nothing is as precious as the people. In the world, nothing is as strong as the unity force of the people” is a profound lesson of extremely important significance when the country is at a historic turning point and needs to mobilize material resources and a great spirit. Over the past time, in the countless difficulties of the epidemic and natural disasters, we have become more deeply aware of the good nature of our regime, of the will to unite and unify actions of the entire Party, the people, and the army, which has been recognized and appreciated by the world. That fact affirms the great value of patriotism, humanitarian will, spirit and will of Vietnam; and is a very important basis to continue to consolidate the belief of the people towards the Party and a bright future for the nation.

We celebrate the 130th anniversary of the birth of the great President Ho Chi Minh at a time of particularly important significance. The international and domestic situation has many opportunities and advantages, but also difficulties and challenges, requiring the Party, the people and the army to unite and strive with high determination and efforts to be larger, more dynamic, and more creative to fulfill the set objectives and tasks well, first of all to overcome the challenges and negative impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring good health, well-being, social welfare for the people. We must also proactively and acutely seize opportunities, striving to complete at the highest level the socio-economic development tasks set out by the 12th National Assembly and for the 2011-2020 period; preparing to organize well the Party Assembly at all levels and the 13th National Assembly of the Party; strengthening the ties between the Party and the people.
