The Ministry of Health and UNICEF Vietnam (United Nations Children’s Fund) launched the campaign “Kindness is contagious” on the mass media and social media to call on young people to help the community, express their sense of empathy, tolerance, altruism, sociability, and share creative ways to prevent the COVID-19 pandemic.

The campaign aims to enhance the position and voice of the youth by encouraging, sharing, exchanging information, drawing pictures, and making a video about the youth, and call on the community to join together in a creative and innovative manner, using digital platforms and social networks of UNICEF and the Ministry of Health. The campaign demonstrates not only the role of youth in COVID-19 pandemic time, but also their knowledge, responsibility, and new lifestyle when life turns to a new normal status.

Vietnam is a young population country with 70% of the population under 35 years old. Being the future of a country, young people often have their dream and ambition and desire to contribute to society, strengthen and develop the country. The campaign “Kindness is contagious” is a rewarding playground for every young person to play an important role in preventing the spread of the pandemic and inaccurate information.

The Ministry of Health and UNICEF has given young people a chance to show out themselves and become the pioneers in preventing the pandemic and helping others in need so that the kindness may be spread and replicated in the community.

Any action, even the minor ones, has a strong impact on the community, help everyone get through this time together and rebound strongly.

“The Ministry of Health hopes that through this campaign, Vietnamese youth can have more opportunities to contribute, share, and bring into play their strength, enthusiasm and passion in order to join hands to repel the COVID-19 pandemic. Please sympathize, share and spread the love so that kindness can be replicated in the community” – said Mr. Nguyen Dinh Anh, the Director of the Department of Communications, Emulation and Reward under the Ministry of Health.

Ms. Rana Flowers, the UNICEF Vietnam’s Representative said: “We are in a difficult and precarious time when the ‘limited contact’ makes us even more ‘isolated’ than ever. And now, this will be a ‘new normal lifestyle’. Learning from the past, we will live better and be kinder. This is the time to show our love and care. For this campaign, we encourage young people to do kind things. Any action, even the minor ones, has a strong impact on the community, help everyone get through this time together and rebound strongly.”

From May to June 2020, UNICEF Vietnam, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, implements communication activities of the campaign “Kindness is contagious” to raise awareness, build solidarity and mutual assistance, and encourage the kind actions among Vietnamese youth and people.

Young Vietnamese artists such as singer Min, band Ngot, rapper Suboi, actor Ninh Duong Lan Ngoc, painter Tamypu, fashionista Chau Bui, TikTok Vietnam, Nha Nam Publishing and Communications Joint Stock Company, World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) will join hands with UNICEF and the Ministry of Health in this campaign.

UNICEF Vietnam and the Ministry of Health call on Vietnamese youth nationwide to join and accompany the campaign “Kindness is contagious”.
