Temple of Literature: The place to witness an interesting dialogue between Calligraphy and Graffiti

The exhibition displays 39 works of both types, focusing on teacher and student morality; study and self-training; books and reading culture; Temple of Literature; Vietnam and its famous landmarks.

The exhibition is an interesting dialogue between two types of works that seem to be difficult to have a common voice because of differences in their aesthetics, language and materials. Experiencing 4 stages, from meeting and direct dialogue to exchanging and finding empathy, sharing common points about the form, message to be conveyed which are all for Integrity – Compassion – Excellence, both groups of Calligraphy and Graffiti artists met each other and were present in this very special and interesting Calligraphy and Graffiti Dialogue Exhibition.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Le Xuan Kieu – Director of the Center for Cultural and Scientific Activities of the Temple of Literature said: “39 works to be displayed in the exhibition, and created by young dynamic authors, who are full of desire to dedicate, and well-known in Calligraphy and Graffiti aspects, come from Hanoi, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, are outcome a project of writing and displaying Calligraphy combined with Graffiti. It has gradually contributed to realize the idea of turning the Temple of Literature into a creative space, a cultural center, an attractive destination for those who love heritage, culture and art”.

Director of the Center for Cultural and Scientific Activities of the Temple of Literature, Mr. Le Xuan Kieu, spoke at the opening ceremony.  

The exhibition opens up possibilities for unlimited and creative interaction and learning between practitioners of Calligraphy and Graffiti, a successful dialogue in the spirit of mutual respect and respect for diversity. This is an opportunity for these two types of arts to dialogue, co-create and come closer to the public, giving viewers new, positive and close experiences and perspectives for both subjects. At the same time, the exhibition also creates favorable conditions for the public to access contemporary art works created on the basis of traditional culture from a new perspective of young people, contributing to raising awareness of the community, especially young people, in preserving and promoting cultural heritage values.

The exhibition will be held at the Thai Hoc area of ​​the Temple of Literature until September 30, 2022.
