The 45th anniversary of the victory of “Dien Bien Phu in the air” is an important event to the capital and the country in 2017. In celebration of the anniversary and to review the historic events of the nation, on December 13th, the Youth Union branch of Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports in cooperation with Air Force Regiment No. 921 organized a meeting to recall the heroic victory of “Hanoi – 12 days and nights”.

The meeting on recalling the historic event of “Dien Bien Phu in the air” between Youth Union members of Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports and Air Force Regiment No. 921

The historic victory of “Dien Bien Phu in the air” in late December 1972, exactly 45 years ago, of our troops and people against the large-scaled strategic air raid of the Imperial America’s air force will always be regarded as a symbol of bravery, intelligence, and strength of the Vietnamese people. During the historic 12 days and nights, officers and soldiers of the Air Division No. 371, with their determination to fight until claiming victory despite enormous sacrifices, bravely fought and intercepted the enemy from a far distance when their teams barely deployed. The enemy’s air force was attacked layer by layer by our air force, their crews were disrupted and dispersed, and their commanders were in total chaos, leading to a reduced B52 interference intensity which gave way for our missile deployment against them. During the operation, Air Division No. 371 shot down a total of seven enemy aircrafts, including two B52 aircrafts. Air Force Regiment No. 921 in particular shot down three enemy aircrafts, including one B52.

In his speech at the meeting, Lieutenant Colonel Tran Viet Ha, Political Chief of the Air Force Regiment No. 921, affirmed: “In promoting the heroic tradition of the Regiment, in the past years, the youth of Air Force Regiment No. 921 have constantly learned and trained themselves to enhance their political bravery and working style in order to well fulfill the task of firmly defending the assigned airspace of the fatherland. Besides fulfilling political tasks, the youth of the Regiment have also actively participated in volunteer activities during which their tendencies of not backing away from difficulties and challenges and their determination to overcome any obstacles to fully complete assigned tasks have been shown”.

The meeting was an opportunity for officers and Youth Union members of Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports and Air Force Regiment No. 921 to understand more deeply about the victory of “Dien Bien Phu in the air”, a victory of profound historic significance that showed the glorious tradition of self-reliance and fighting for independence of our troops and people, especially of the Air Force and Air Defense service and the troops and people of the capital city, significantly contributing to our final victory in the Resistance War Against America.

This meeting had been expected to foster patriotic and revolutionary sentiments in the youth as well as to promote the adoption of historical lessons to the course of building, developing, and defending the capital city and the country. The meeting had also been aimed at confirming the correctness of the policy of people’s war and people’s defense posture under the leadership of the Party and Uncle Ho, building faith, and increasing the responsibility of Hanoi’s officials, soldiers, and Youth Union members in the renovation of the capital city in particular and the country in general.
