“Trung trinh liet nu “– script: Author Tran Hong Van, adaptation of Cheo Mai Van Sinh, director – People’s Artist Hoang Quynh Mai, art direction by Meritorious Artist Thu Huyen. The Hanoi Cheo Theater’s performance “Trung trinh liet nu” depicted a heroic moment in the nation’s history. The play’s plot is around Princess An Tu, who sacrificed herself during the Tran dynasty’s resistance fight against the Mongols. A huge force of the Nguyen army led by General Thoat Hoan invaded Dai Viet for the second time in January 1285. In the face of a fierce enemy, the Tran court was compelled to find a strategy for delaying the army so that it could consolidate its forces. Princess An Tu (King Tran Thanh Tong’s younger sister and King Tran Nhan Tong’s aunt) sacrificed herself as a “tribute” to keep the enemy at bay in order to save the country. She, in particular, transformed into a living flame, allowing the Tran army to track down Thoat Hoan and force him to flee through a copper pipe…

The names that have made the show’s success are young actors, such as Quoc Phong (as Tran Thong) and Thanh Huyen (as Princess An Tu), Hong Thang (as Thoat Hoan) and artist Xuan Huynh (as Tran Kiem). Besides, there are also veteran actors such as: Meritorious Artist Hong Nam (as King Tran Nhan Tong). The success of the play also has the contribution of musician Tat Trong and choreographer Hoai Anh.

Thu Huyen, Meritorious Artist and the Deputy Director of the Hanoi Cheo Theater, shared: “Trung trinh liet nu” has been performed since the beginning of 2020. Because “Trung trinh liet nu” is a play honoring the sacrifice made for the country by the people of Thang Long – Dai Viet, we have selected it to participate in the Capital Theater Festival in 2022.

The play recently has won the Gold Medal for the best performance at the Capital Theater Festival 2022 (organized by the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports and the Vietnam Association of Theater Artists every 2 years. Once again, the Hanoi Cheo brand has been affirmed in the Vietnamese theater.

To celebrate the upcoming holidays and anniversaries, the Hanoi Cheo Theater will bring the play “Trung trinh liet nu” to perform in many districts in Hanoi City and a number of provinces and cities in the whole country.
