The contest “Hanoi Public Art Design 2022” is one of the activities to implement the content committed with UNESCO to nurture young talents of Hanoi, develop a network of young designers when Hanoi joins UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network in 2019. At the same time, it contributes to promoting creative design activities in the community, increasing access to green, safe and inclusive public space and serve as a bridge to bring creative ideas and practices closer to the public. This activity also promotes multi-stakeholder cooperation to create a youth-centered environment in the development of the cultural industry, the creative industry, seeking investors to realize creative ideas and form creative spaces for Hanoi in particular and Vietnam in general.

Based on the study and discovery of cultural and historical values in the Hanoi Old Quarter area, young creatives will propose ideas about public art spaces (including indoor and outdoor spaces) to bring new creative design models and solutions with educational and aesthetic value. New technology solutions are applied to contribute to bringing art and artistic creativity closer to the public, especially young people. The activities must be practical, efficient and economical.

The contest also aims to promote young people to participate in building and contributing to the strategic vision and action plan for Hanoi – Creative City through experience sharing workshops, consultation workshops and meetings… At the same time, towards solutions to design on digital platform or digital design to bring excellent creative works to the public widely and to quickly connect national as well as international young creative centers.

Contest participants are mainly young creatives with the core being students of universities and colleges in the field of architectural design, interior design, fine art, culture… and also artists, architects, designers, especially young designers interested in the creative design of public art works. After registration, the candidates/groups of candidates will be able to attend interdisciplinary programs, conferences, seminars, trainings… with the participation of domestic and international researchers and artists who have been practicing a variety of Public Art projects to raise awareness and understanding of interdisciplinary creative public art, enhance teamwork, promote creative thinking, and call for resources to cooperate in forming and developing creative art spaces.

The contest aims to seek creative ideas with: Contemporary aesthetic values ​​inspired by cultural resources and traditional materials; educational value, community interaction and high applicability; new technology content, especially digital technology; Ease of construction and performance; Unlimited performance materials and methods. Creatives of outdoor spaces should keep in mind the following issues: Impact of weather; impact of public interaction, etc.

Size of works should depend on the authors’ idea and the actual size of the public spaces. The Organizing Committee will have preliminary size suggestions for some key spaces.

Time for submission of works:

For A3 drawings: Before 16:00 on October 12, 2022. Time of works submitted by post will be based on the actual sending time noted on the parcel. Address: Office of Architecture Magazine – Vietnam Association of Architects, 40 Tang Bat Ho Street, Hai Ba Trung District, Hanoi.

For soft files: Upload via the link provided before 16:00 on October 12, 2022.

Announcement of selected works: October 15, 2022.

Deploying the formation of selected works (models of works): From October 15, 2022 to November 10, 2022.

Prize structure: 01 First Prize (01 Breakthrough Idea Award); 02 Second Prizes (01 Best Application Innovation Idea Award, 01 Best Technology Innovation Idea Award); 02 Third Prizes (02 New Creative Idea Awards).

The winning works will be selected, piloted to exhibit and perform in the Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2022 in November 2022 (proposal to extend the exhibition time if allowed).

Prizes will be announced and awarded at the Opening Ceremony of “Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2022” (expected on 11/11/2022).
