Propagation and free delivery of masks to prevent COVID-19 pandemic
Right after the outbreak of COVID-10 pandemic, the Hanoi Youth Union took the initiative and timely adjusted the organization plan and scope of their activities at all levels and directed volunteer activities for the community in response to the Month of Youth with a focus on propagating about the pandemic prevention; connecting and mobilizing social resources to support the city’s epidemic prevention. The Union organized many typical activities such as Blood donation; propagation of the pandemic to the union’s members; Application of advanced, modern, and creative science and technology in protecting public health; “Rescue” of agricultural products; General cleaning of the environment; Arrangement of union members to support functional froces at isolation areas.
As soon as the outbreak occurred, on social networking sites, there was much false information spread, caused fear for people. In that situation, the Hanoi Youth Union used the fanpage “Hanoi Youth Union” with satellite fanpages to direct fanpages and Facebook sites of 111 affiliated Youth Union’s units regularly and timely to share official information and update the situation of epidemic diseases in the country and the world whilst linking and introducing reputable and reliable websites, providing hotline phone numbers and a list of quick response mobile teams of the Ministry of Health to help people easily access to. Hanoi Youth Union held an online seminar titled “Coronavirus – right understanding, right action, responsibility of young people”, which attracted more than 60,000 views and reached more than 130,000 people. The propaganda was also done by the Union through by organizing online contests such as: 15-day sharing challenge; Hanoi in me; Together we win – Jump beat COVID – 19; Quizzes about Corona Virus and how to prevent COVID – 19; Online game of kicking out COVID – 19, and many other meaningful ones.
Besides, many Voluntary Blood Donation Days such as “Youth’s Blood Drops” and “Connecting Love Drops” have been actively organized by the Youth Union at all levels with thousands of blood units collected. The City Youth Union and grassroots organizations throughout the city have connected and coordinated with organizations and businesses to organize free standard masks delivery, antibacterial hand sanitizer and propaganda leaflets in many streets and residential areas, relics, scenic spots and public places throughout 30 districts and towns and at the head offices of administrative agencies in the city.
When Hanoi detected the first case of COVID – 19 (Patient No.16), the Hanoi Youth Union promptly instructed its Youth Union units in the city to actively adjust the scale of sanitation in small squads to avoid crowds; concentrate on volunteer activities for the community while ensuring the sufficient provision of masks, disinfectants and protective equipment necessary for Capital volunteers. In the context of much unconfirmed information spread at a dizzying speed, significantly affecting the spirit of youth union members and the people of the capital, the Hanoi Youth Union has also directed the facilities of the Youth Union to combine environmental sanitation with propagation and orientation of information among adolescents and people; and not to be too subjective and too nervous, but calm down to prevent the epidemics.
Youth Union members actively participated in voluntary blood donation
Responding to the activities of the Youth Union, many Youth Union units have continued to demonstrate the creative role of youth in applying advanced science and technology, promoting their strengths and specialized characteristics to make hundreds of thousands of antibacterial dry disinfectants that meet the standards of the World Health Organization (WHO) with the desire to accompany the City Youth Union in the prevention and control of the epidemics such as Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Water Resources University, Hanoi Metropolitan University, Hanoi National University of Education, VNU University of Science… to give away for people, young people to join hands in protecting community health. A bunch of activities with grassroots volunteer teams such as actively propagating to young people and people the necessary information about the COVID – 19 epidemics; disinfection spraying at workers’ houses, schools and offices; mobile voluntary blood donation points; constructing and handing over the youth constructions, etc. were carried out simultaneously and broadly by the Capital’s youth throughout the City. Knowing that agricultural products were stagnant due to the impact of the disease, many Youth Union units under the Hanoi Youth Union such as Tay Ho District Union, Long Bien, Youth Union of VNPT Hanoi became the focal point coordinating with many clubs and agencies to buy and sell watermelons to farmers with dozens of tons. That action has been spreading widely in the community which helps farmers overcome difficulties.
Until the end of March, Union levels in the city connected and encouraged socialization resources to deliver more than 1,2 million qualified masks, more than 61.000 bottles of antibacterial hand sanitizer and propaganda flyers throughout 30 districts, suburban districts, towns and the head office at administrative agencies. Youth Union members at universities upheld their creativity and expertise to make over 35,000 liters of qualified hand sanitizer and gave them to people, children, hospitals and health facilities. City-level volunteer teams joined hands to prevent and combat COVID – 19 with the following contents: Installing 100 field handwashing stations serving people for preventing the COVID-19; Supporting functional forces to control the security condition at lookouts and receiving and delivering necessities to help people in the situation of quarantine; Giving masks, antiseptic solution, medical protection cloth and propaganda flyers to prevent the COVID-19; Supporting in health declaration; Assisting students and volunteers to move to the centralized isolation point to do their tasks; Participating in online educational activities for local children; Propagating and encouraging children and people to participate in COVID – 19 prevention and control fund launched by the Prime Minister and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front via the system of online banking and message to the 1407 Exchange.
Promoting the spirit of solidarity, the Hanoi Youth Union sent the people and children 30,000 masks and 200 liters of disinfectants, 5,000 medical gloves, and more …in Vinh Phuc, Lao Cai, Bac Giang, Dien Bien and the High Command.
Voluntary activities for the community, together contributing to disease prevention that Hanoi Youth Union has been implementing show the role and responsibility of young people in caring and protecting the health of the community, building and developing the Capital. Through these practical activities, the significance, role and position of the Youth Union organization are constantly strengthened, grown and worthy of the belief of leaders as well as members and youths of the Capital.
