Speaking at the event, Chairman of the Hanoi Women’s Union Ms. Le Kim Anh said: Under the impact of the epidemic, the number of children in Hanoi who are in difficulty and need support has increased. In 2021, there were 10 orphans due to the pandemic, the number of children at risk of falling into difficult circumstances will increase to over 3,000. By the end of 2021, Hanoi city has 5,272 orphaned children, 644 orphans without both parents currently living in the community.

From September 2021, responding to the program “United against the epidemic”, “Waves and computers for children”, the program “Million gifts to share love” of the Central Vietnam Women’s Union, Hanoi Women’s Union had launched a program to accompany children with many activities such as: Propaganda to improve knowledge and responsibilities of officials, cadres, women members, and parents in protecting, caring for and educating children; accompanying children in online learning, donating computers, equipment and tools for learning;

implementing the program “Godmother connects love” with orphans in extremely difficult circumstances, orphaned due to Covid-19. The program has received the enthusiastic support of women’s staff, organizations and individuals, through which 389 orphans with special circumstances in the city have been sponsored.

Also at the event, the Organizing Committee had presented gifts, discussed and connected Godmothers to 70 orphans with special circumstances, orphaned children due to Covid-19, representing nearly 200 orphans who have received sponsors owing to the connection of the Union in this period. At the same time, organizers had awarded winner of a writing contest on contemporary family issues in the Capital Women’s Newspaper. The event had displayed books and introduced several safe, friendly products, OCOP products of craft villages and city businesswomen.

Within the framework of the program, the Hanoi Women’s Union also had cooperated with the Hanoi Youth Union to organize a drawing contest for young people in the capital with the theme “My safe and friendly city”./.
