Delegates cut the opening ribbon and toured the exhibition.

The exhibition tells the story of the days when Leader Nguyen Ai Quoc was detained by the Tuong Gioi Thach government in prisons and the bravery and wisdom escapes of patriotic and loyal soldiers. But, not all of the escapades have been successful, and many political prisoners have died on the journey to freedom. History has been, did and do recognize the former generations who sacrificed for the independence and freedom for the nation.

The exhibition space and “talking” artifacts will tell today’s generation the touching story of the resilient and indomitable bravery of loyal revolutionary soldiers who, with their patriotism, broke the colonial and imperial prisons and were determined to escape prisons to return to the revolution and the people. Many people died on land and the deep sea due to unsuccessful escape. Someone was lucky to escape but his/her body was not intact. All those hardships and sacrifices could not stop their patriotic journey to freedom. The exhibition was divided into three parts: Shackles; Wings in the night and Endless Triumphant Song.

Memories of the revolutionary soldiers who escaped from prisons in the past.

In the first part called “Shackles”, historical images and artifacts reflect the extremely hard life of Vietnamese people under the colonial and imperialist regime. In the dark night, the Vietnamese people must struggle with their strength to resist the heavy exploitation, enslavement and terrorism. The system of continuous suppression tools includes Courts, Secret Service Departments and Prisons established by colonial and imperialist authorities in all localities.

In the “hells on earth” of Hoa Lo, Son La, Con Dao, Phu Quoc, the enemy has carried out a strict regime of living and working, to use suffering to subdue the will of Vietnamese patriots. But, without giving up, the revolutionary soldiers were always determined to carry out daring escapes, yearning for freedom and going to the revolutionary lights… That is highlighted in part “Winging in the night” with images depicting the journey to freedom with so many difficulties, hardships and sacrifices, but also containing the spirit of the steadfast revolutionary soldiers who refused to accept the death in colonial and imperial prisons.

Closing the exhibition, the par “Endless Triumphant Song” introduces the revolutionary soldiers’ contributions after escaping from colonial and imperial prisons. The imprint of courage in the former daring prison breaks is still an enduring testament to the patriotism and aspiration to peace of the Vietnamese people. The memory of the former prisoners who escaped from the past is a part of the national history, the pride and the motivation for the young generation to step forward on the path of renewal and national construction.

The exhibition also depicts portraits of 12 former political prisoners who successfully escaped from prisons during the resistance wars against France and the US, contributed their strength to the revolutionary movements, including many comrades holding the leadership roles of the Party and State such as comrades Nguyen Luong Bang, Do Muoi, Nguyen Van Tran, Tran Dang Ninh, Tran Tu Binh, Le Trong Nghia, Hoang Ngan, Hoang Thi Ai, General Nguyen Chi Thanh, General Van Tien Dung, Lieutenant General Song Hao, Major General Huynh Dac Huong.

Besides, there are also many documents and exhibits related to the escapes and memorabilia of the revolutionary soldiers who participated in the prison breaks in the past.
