Vietnam women’s team wins silver medal in the women’s triple team event.

The final match against Thailand 1 ended after 1 hour and 45 minutes of fierce competition. There were times where the Vietnamese team led 7-4, 9-6 then 10-9. We lost due to failure to correctly maneuver balls at the very decisive moment where it required only 3 more points to grab victory, resulting in a final score of 13-10 which earned us the silver medal.

According to head coach Dang Xuan Vui, the Vietnamese women team had many chances to win the Asian championship, but still lacked in experience to be able to correctly handle some situations at the end of the match.

Still, the silver medal in this event is considered a success of the Vietnamese petanque team, considering the team had not had enough time to practice together, but instead went straight to Thailand to participate in the championship.

Also on December 11, the Vietnamese petanque youth team lost out to Cambodia and took home the bronze medal.

The Vietnamese teams wrapped up the 2017 Asian Petanque Championship with 2 silver medals and 2 bronze medals. This truly reflects the efforts to invest in the teams as well as the capabilities of the national petanque teams.

Also in this year’s tournament, the organizers organized another tournament, named Nations Cup, for the teams which failed to participate in the semi-finals of the triple events. In the men’s triple team event, the Vietnamese team won first place (equivalent to 5th place) after winning over Japan in the final match at a score of 13-5.
