On February 3, 1930, under the direction of leader Nguyen Ai Quoc, the Communist Party of Vietnam was established, opening a great turning point on the country’s development path. With the right leadership, the Communist Party of Vietnam has gradually implemented its historical mission. Under the leadership of the Party, our nation made the victory of the August Revolution in 1945, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, and won the two long-lasting resistance wars against France (1946 – 1954) and America (1954 – 1975).
In the cause of national liberation, many party members were captured and imprisoned in colonial and imperial prisons. In the so-called “hell on earth”, the Party organization was secretly established to lead prisoners to fight and turning prisons into schools, where many Party’s leading cadres were trained revolutionary ideals.

After reuniting the country, promoting the glorious revolutionary tradition and seeking a way to help the country overcome the socio-economic crisis, since 1986, the Communist Party of Vietnam has initiated and led the people to implement the cause of innovation, industrialization, modernization and gained great achievements. Over the past 30 years, the image of Vietnam, a country having political stability, overcoming the economic crisis, eliminating inflation, significantly improving the people’s lives, and so on, has affirmed the leading role of the Party. Under the leadership of the Party, the people strongly believe that the country will develop rapidly and sustainably as expected by President Ho Chi Minh and that the renovation cause initiated and led by the Party will continue to gain great achievements.
The exhibition “Lighting up the Fire of faith” is divided into 3 parts: Part 1 “The Sun of Truth” affirms that the establishment of Communist Party of Vietnam was a great turning point on the country’s development path. Part 2 “The Halo in Dungeon” tells the story of people who are brave and strong in the “Hells on Earth”: Hoa Lo Prison, Son La Prison, Con Dao Prison, Phu Quoc Prisons, and so on. Part 3 “Lighting up the Fire of Faith” tells the journey of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the nation to overcome all challenges and difficulties and make progress on the path of innovation.

Also at the Display, for the first time, keepsakes associated with the leaders of the Party, the State and loyal Party members who were imprisoned by the enemy in colonial and imperial prisons have been introduced to the public, such as the typewriter used by Comrade Nguyen Van Tran, the Secretary of Hanoi Party Committee during the period of resistance wars against France and America; the bag used by Comrade Dang Viet Chau, the Senior Advisor of the Standing Committee of the Council of Ministers when attending the 5th National Representative Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, held in Hanoi in March 1982; Badge worn by Comrade Hoang Thi Ai, Revolutionary Elder, the former Secretary of the Central Vietnam Women’s Union, Vice President of the Vietnam Women’s Union when attending the 5th National Representative Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, held in Hanoi in March 1982; A collection of articles in the “Things to do now” column of General Secretary Nguyen Van Linh published in “Nhan dan” newspaper, 1987; the bag used by General Secretary Do Muoi when attending the 8th National Representative Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, 1996, and the like.

“During the years of fierce resistance wars against France and America, in the “hells on earth”, Party organizations were still secretly established, leading prisoners to fight and turning the prison into a revolutionary school. At the display, we can see pictures and stories of the Party members, who devoted their youth to the nation, following the Party’s ideals, despite the possibility of being shackled and imprisoned. With a burning desire to regain the independence and freedom for the Fatherland and happiness for the people, they are considered examples in dungeon, turning darkness into light, turning danger into peace, making prison a place where their fighting will is practised and a revolutionary school for patriotic and loyal soldiers. All have demonstrated the great belief in the leadership of the Party. These days, the glorious revolutionary tradition of our Party and people in those fierce years of wars has been inherited and promoted strongly “. The display “Lighting up the Fire of Faith” has affirmed and contributed to further spreading the belief in the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam. Such “halo” will shine forever, bringing the people the bright springs on the road of country novation.
The display will last until the end of February 29, 2020, at Hoa Lo Prison Historical Site, located at No. 1 Hoa Lo, Tran Hung Dao, Hoan Kiem, Hanoi.
