In the context that the love of basketball among high school students in Hanoi city in particular and the whole country, in general, is increasing, the need to learn and practice this sport increasingly requires professionalism. However, the vast majority of students can only really play basketball during PE lessons in very basic exercises with a duration of 2-3 hours/week.

Many young people want to have the opportunity to practice well to have the opportunity to compete in a professional environment in the future. Grasping that mentality, for the first time in Hanoi city, Everest School has brought a quality choice for 10th grade students to enroll this year.

The Semi-Professional Basketball System is a combination of a high-quality general education program created by the prestigious Everest School and a professional basketball training program from the coaches of Hanoi Amigos Club. Hanoi Amigos is the training unit for the Hanoi Basketball Team and the co-organizer of basketball tournaments and events of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports in the near future. The program ensures students to practice and compete professionally, and at the same time equips them with proficient English skills and ensures high school outcomes for students.

The leader of this groundbreaking educational program is Dr. Nghiem Vu Khai – Vice President of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations, Chairman of the Hanoi Basketball Federation and Chairman of the Founding Council of the Everest School. Mr. Khai said: “Hanoi city has many specialized schools and elective classes, but there is no school to train physical classes, even less basketball. We look at the region and countries like Japan and Korea…. the school sports training system has developed very strongly, providing an abundant supply for professional clubs. Basketball is Everest’s first step in the goal of building professional sports classes in schools. 02 basketball courts; 2 soccer fields; 500m2 gym with dance studio; A four-season saltwater swimming pool with competition standards has been built and inaugurated in the past time to concretize this expectation”.

This will be an ideal model for the development of school basketball in Vietnam. In developed countries such as Japan, Korea or beyond, the US, schools have always been the cradle for professional players to develop. Perhaps Vietnamese basketball fans are not strange to the model of a basketball club operating extremely methodically with coaches and clear lesson plans of high schools or large-scale student tournaments in Japan, depicted in famous basketball manga such as Slam Dunk, Kuroko no Basketball. This model is the launching pad for Japanese players like Rui Hachimura or Yuta Watanabe to come to universities in the US, thereby setting foot in the prestigious NBA tournament.

To attract excellent students from all over Hanoi city, the School awards scholarships through two forms: scholarship consideration for students with achievements in culture, English, arts and sports; or based on the individual achievements of students through the “ESB Try-Out: Evaluation of Basketball Technical Level” session with famous coaches and athletes on August 28, 2021, at Everest School.
